The Waikanae Volunteer Fire Brigade was formed in May 1952 and was originally based at Waikanae Beach and started with 34 Volunteer members.
We moved to our current location in Te Moana Rd in 1976 just as the New Zealand Fire Service was formed into one country wide national fire service. We are Station 38 in Region 3 of the New Zealand Fire Service and currently have 30 Volunteer Members
We attend between 170 and 250 call outs each year to all manner of emergencies ranging from dogs stuck down rabbit holes, motor accidents, car fires, people stuck in lifts and structure and vegetation fires.
Training is an important part of or duties so we train every Tuesday night from 1930hrs
We have two Fire Appliances a Type 1 Fire Appliance known as Waikanae 381 and a Rescue Tender known as Waikanae387
We also operate a Toyota Hi Ace Van for Fire Support duties.
