2009 Australasian Firefighters Championship

Saturday 17th July, 2010 - Rotorua

Eight New Zealand teams were selected by the UFBA to represent the country in the Australasian Firefighters Championship, hosted in Rotorua on 17th & 18th October.  And each of those eight teams put in an exceptional effort at the event, which comprised a total of 30 teams.

It was the National Champion Carterton team – now the Australasian Champion - that led the charge.  Carterton earned 174 points overall and won six of 10 events along the way to win the Championship.  And New Zealand’s success didn’t stop there.  Silverdale, Kaitangata, and the composite team from Maungaturoto and Havelock North finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.  Mossburn and Havelock North’s four-person team tied for seventh; the composite team from Tairua and Te Aroha placed eleventh; and Rangiora tied for sixteenth place.

The Australasian – consisting of 10 hose-running events - is made up of two events from New Zealand, four from New South Wales, two from Victoria, and two from Queensland.
