About UFBA Events

Every year, the UFBA runs a variety of challenge events and an annual conference.

Many of our members find great benefit in participating in Waterway, Road Crash Rescue, Combat, and Drivers Challenges.  Each of these events is designed to help firefighters hone their skills in a competitive environment, while building camaraderie with other members of the fire and rescue community.

The Annual Conference is another opportunity for delegates from brigades throughout the country to exchange ideas and knowledge.  Moving forward, the UFBA will hold its conferences in November of each year.

Our aim is to continue to grow participation in all of our events.  We encourage brigades that have members interested in competing in a challenge to find out more through this website, or to contact the events team or Technical Panel with questions.

As events come up for which we are seeking hosts, we'll post information on the Host an Event page.  Generally, we request official proposals from prospective hosts.  On the host an event page, you'll find all the details you need as well as templates to guide you in putting together your proposal.

An easy way of accessing the details of all of our upcoming events is through the Upcoming Events page.

Q » How many people can be on an RCR team?

The UFBA funds six (6) team members to each Challenge.  Teams who wish to have additional people involved (managers, coaches, spares) will need to fund those people themselves.

Q » What is the closing date to put my expense claim in?

The closing date for expense claims is advertised on the appropriate Challenge or Conference page.  We impose deadlines to ensure we were able to manage our finances prudently and establish our final costs in a timely fashion.  Late expense claims will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Q » What are the meal allowances?

Breakfast $20.00

Lunch $15.00

Dinner $35.00

Alcohol is not reimbursed under any circumstances.

Q » How do you calculate mileage?

Mileage is calculated using Wises Online Maps, and is calculated from the centre of the departure town to the centre of the destination town.  Please note that this is not door-to-door in most cases.  Mileage will be paid at a rate consistent with NZFS policy on a per kilometre rate for surface travel.
