NZFBI Field Day: Ohakea Airforce Base

RNZAF Base Ohakea, located 22km West of Palmerston North, is one of the three Air Force bases. It is also New Zealand’s third largest airfield. There are over 1,000 people working at the base, which is used as training base and logistics hub as well as for search and rescue, VIP flight operations and a variety of other functions.

Participants can expect to learn about safety around fixed wing aircrafts and rotary wing aircrafts, safety around military aircrafts involved in accidents and crashes, and safety around live ordnance.  Aircraft fires and fire suppression techniques will also be covered.


$15 per person payable in cash

0900  Equipment presentation
1000  Morning tea
1030  Demonstration of capability of fire appliances
1100  Look over truck and equipment with question and answer time
1145  Main lecture safety around live ordnance, aircraft accidents
1230  Lunch either at Mess
1300  Transport to fire training ground
1330  Fire fighting techniques
1530  Afternoon tea
1600  Main lecture room for final debrief and question time
