2011 National Waterway Challenge Rescheduled for November, Australasian Teams Based on Regionals
14th March 2011After discussions between the UFBA Board and Technical Panel, and the Carterton host committee, the UFBA has announced that the 2011 National Waterway Challenge, which was postponed due to the Christchurch Earthquake, has been rescheduled to 3rd to 5th November in Carterton.
Teams and officials that had originally registered for the Challenge will now need to reconfirm that they will be attending in November by emailing Jade from Orbit Travel at jadep@orbit.co.nzno later than 1 June 2011.
UFBA Events Manager Sarah Taylor says registrations will be carried over from February and accommodation and social function details will remain the same.
After participants reconfirm with Jade that they are attending, new new flight itineraries will be issued by Orbit Travel.
Those who can no longer attend should contact Jade at Orbit Travel no later than 1 June 2011 to arrange a refund.
Those who want to attend, but didn’t register originally will need to email Sarah at sarah@ufba.org.nz to adviser her that you wish to register and she will advise next steps.
“The Australasian Firefighters Championship is being held in Port MacQuarie, Australia in October,” says George Verry, UFBA Chief Executive Officer. “And previously the teams representing New Zealand in the Australasians have been selected based on their performances in the National Waterway Challenge that precedes it.”
“Because our National Waterway Challenge will now take place after the Australasians, we’ve had to make our selections based on the results from the UFBA Regional Waterway Challenges. The top four-person team from each region will represent the UFBA and New Zealand in Port MacQuarie.”
That’s good news for the winners of the UFBA Regionals (In order from Region 1 through 4): Silverdale, Carterton, Greymouth, and Clyde.
Taylor says she’ll be in touch with those teams to confirm their funding and arrangements for the Australasians in due course.
