On a stunning warm and sunny Southland day, hosts Mataura Volunteer Fire Brigade and the local organising committee put in a lot of effort to make sure the UFBA South Island Waterway Challenge on 24 February was a great success.
Nine 4-person teams and eight 2-person teams competed at this Challenge to test their speed and accuracy of pump operation and hose skills.
We congratulate the winning teams!
Oamaru took out the 2-person challenge, with home brigade Mataura following and then Rangfield (Rangiora and Darfield combined).
Kaitangata (pictured) were the 4-person winners with Rangiora second and Mataura third.
To encourage participation and provide opportunities to practice skills, the UFBA North and South Island Waterway Challenges are held in the off-year to the National Challenge.
Our thanks to all the competitors for their commitment to the extensive training needed to take part in UFBA Challenges and the volunteer officials for their dedicated work.
