Access psychological wellbeing support from UFBA

Message from Chief Executive Officer Bill Butzbach

The fast approaching Christmas and the New Year period can be a challenging time of year for our people, their families and communities.

UFBA/FRFANZ are strongly committed to supporting our members—a key contributing factor to meeting this objective is enhancing wellbeing in our brigades and rural fire forces.

I am pleased to report that UFBA/FRFANZ along with our union and association partners have worked closely together with Fire and Emergency NZ on putting processes in place that will ensure everyone is able to access the psychological wellbeing support they need during the festive season.

Recently, Fire and Emergency Chief Executive Rhys Jones issued a communication to all leaders about the support available and how to access it. Download his letter here or below.

UFBA/FRFANZ encourages Fire and Emergency personnel including volunteers and non-operational people to directly access wellbeing support as detailed in the options below if needed for you and your family.

Please share this with your colleagues.

Ways to get support

1) Contact UFBA support services (at any time):

2) Fire and Emergency people who can be contacted over December and January (from the Safety, Health and Wellbeing and Peer Support Teams)

3) You or your manager can contact regional Peer Support people, Regional Safety, Health and Wellbeing Advisors and the Region 4 Welfare Liaison Officer, via Communication Centres:

4) Confidential counselling sessions for all personnel – call the employee assistance programmes below for advice and support, for work, family or personal concerns.

Numbers for the employee assistance programmes in your region:

5) For psychological emergencies

6) For more information on available services including contact details for peer support people in your region, go to https://portal.fireandemergency.nz/national-teams/people-and-capability/safety-and-wellbeing/critical-incident-and-personal-stress-support-cipss/ or download a copy of the Staying Well – Promoting Wellbeing and Resilience Guide

Stay safe, healthy and well

With a hot, dry summer predicted for many regions along with more vehicles on our roads (and tired, stressed drivers), the upcoming season will be challenging for our brigades/rural fire forces and personnel.

If needed, we urge you to access the psychological wellbeing support that best suits you or your colleagues.

Please stay safe, healthy and well as you continue your very valuable work on protecting lives and properties in your local communities.

Bill
