3rd Alarm blaze at Macaulay Metals, Seaview

This morning saw members respond to a large blaze at a metal recyclers in the Lower Hutt suburb of Seaview. Massive clouds of toxic smoke were billowing across Seaview and Point Howard as a result of a fire in a scrap metal pile, featuring old refrigerators. 1 person was transported to hospital with smoke inhalation. House Fire - 12th July

In the early hours HWOSU were turned out to a 2nd alarm house fire in Taita. The house was well involved with crews assisting from all over the Hutt Valley. Our members assisted with traffic and crowd control and canteen supplies.

Power lines down Upper Hutt - 7th July

In the horrible winter weather HWOSU were paged to power lines down across the road and one house. We were tasked with road closure, lighting and scene safety so that the Power Authority would work on getting the lines back up onto the power pole

Rebecca attended a 2-day Operational Support training course in Rotorua at the National Training Centre where you are put through your paces with all sorts of exercises and events to test your knowledge both in theory and practical. After a very busy and tiring weekend Rebecca passed with flying colours - Congratulations!

Garage Fire Lower Hutt - 25th June

Later in the chilly evening HWOSU were paged to a 2nd alarm house fire in Kelson. The garage suffered alot of damage but was brought under control quickly by fast working firefighting crews who managed to save the house Our unit was tasked with assisting the Command unit with communications with fire safety and crowd control You can read more

Women in Fire and Emergency New Zealand get together - 16th June

On Saturday 16th June some our female members attended an Area 15 WFENZ get together meeting held at Greytown station in the Wairarapa. These are held within each area throughout the country for women to offer support, promote and facilitate the participation and success of women in Fire and Emergency roles within New Zealand. MVA car vs Power Pole Upper Hutt - 11th June

Long Service and good Conduct Medal achievement

Huge congratulations go to two of our unit members who have been gazetted for their Long Service and Good Conduct Service medals. Well done Senior Firefighter Alex Roberts and Qualified Fire Fighter Mark Foster. The New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is a meritorious and long-service award for operational uniformed members of recognised fire services
