French movie ‘The Brigade’ celebrates firefighters’ work

Fire and Emergency NZ, UFBA and NZPFU are joint-sponsoring a film in the upcoming French Film Festival.

The Brigade is a film set around a composite brigade in Southern France and is screening around New Zealand in March - see screenings below.

It is “shot in a manner which evolves the style of a documentary….(and) celebrates the nature of the vital work carried out by firefighters without shying away from the struggles of the job”.

While there are some differences to our environment, the film features career (full-time) and volunteer firefighters, and different types of incidents in urban and rural areas. It deals with themes that are topical for our people including psychological wellbeing, gender diversity, and volunteerism.

We encourage members to attend a nearby screening. Group booking discounts are available in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch from 20 people booking the same screening, so this would be a great opportunity to organise a get-together with your colleagues or simply benefit from a cheaper price.

Go into a draw for tickets!

Five complimentary double passes (10 tickets) are also up for grabs from Fire and Emergency NZ – email here by Friday 9 March to go in to the draw on behalf of your station or brigade.

Representatives in each major area will promote the film in local media or say a few words before the movie about why our organisations are joint-sponsoring the film – to provide our perspective on these issues, what we’re doing to address them, and raising public awareness about the work our people do and answering any questions about what it takes to become a firefighter.
