Firefighters Get Behind the Scenes at SKYCITY
23rd March 2012Forty firefighters got a rare look behind the scenes of SKYCITY’s fixed fire protection systems at two field days put on by the New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Institute (NZFBI) at the end of February. John Stevenson, NZFBI Councillor and Fire Services Coordinator for SKYCITY, organised the day and brought Wormald, Notifier, Brooks, and Pertronic NZ on board to provide hands-on learning opportunities for the participants.
Rolleston Rises to the Top at National Road Crash Rescue Challenge

Rolleston the New National Road Crash Rescue Champion
20th February 2012Rolleston - the team that first competed in the Road Crash Rescue Challenge in 2009 - has quickly risen to the top to become the National Champion. The UFBA National Road Crash Rescue Challenge was held over the weekend, and 17 volunteer brigades entered teams. Winners in each of the Challenge categories are as follows:

Silverdale Among the First to Present IYV +10 Awards
12th February 2012Silverdale District was quick off the mark on presenting its members with the IYV +10 medals issued by the UFBA and NZFS Commission the day after International Volunteer Day. Members of the Silverdale and Manly brigades that make up Silverdale District were honoured at the local RSA, “a fitting place to present medals,” said Chief FIre Officer Frank Mackereth.

Applications Now Being Accepted for Dr Sir John Te Ahikaiata Turei Memorial Grant
20th December 2011Applications are now being accepted for the Dr Sir John Te Ahikaiata Turei Memorial Grant. This grant is available to all personnel who are contemplating or currently learning te reo Māori. The grant is an initiative to enhance our organisation’s overall service delivery capability to the community and will be offered to applicants who would contribute to the ability of the New Zealand Fire Service to work more effectively with the Māori speaking population.
