The focus of the 2017 UFBA Conference was Leading together.
It is crucial that all of us lead together to make sure we can continue to make our major contributions to building safe, sustainable communities.
As local leaders, Provincials are now leading together with the UFBA.
With all seven Provincials represented by their Presidents, Conference was an ideal opportunity to find out about the initiatives that Provincials and the UFBA are undertaking to address our communities' needs and how members could get involved.
Networks and knowledge: Keys to success
Provincials can contribute to sustainable volunteerism through learning and development opportunities such as training and competitions, enhancing wellbeing in our brigades and rural fire forces and reducing the burden of administration on volunteers.
The Provincials and UFBA are working a lot closer together with monthly conference calls helping us all to see how we can better support volunteers.
Let's use the networks and knowledge of our seven Provincials throughout New Zealand.
One new volunteer support initiative UFBA, Provincials and Fire and Emergency New Zealand are working on together is arranging member consultation in Provincial areas on identifying the most time-consuming admin tasks and capturing processes to see how we can improve administration. All with the aim of making it easier to be a volunteer.
Now that we are working in partnership with FRFANZ, Provincials are also liaising closely with colleagues in rural fire forces, so they can benefit from our networks and knowledge.
Conference: Joint Provincial Association Presentation
After the success of the single, combined Provincial address at last year’s conference, Provincials again collectively agreed to continue with this format at the 2017 UFBA Conference.
Grahame Howell, President Auckland Provincial Fire Brigades’ Association, gave the joint presentation on:
- How the Provincials and the UFBA are leading together
- How Provincials can be more influential
- Actions taken by Provincial leaders since last year's Conference
- Potential initatives.
