The NZFBI offers unique study opportunities through its Fire Training and Research Foundation scholarship programme to encourage and promote learning amongst firefighters and provide international experiences.
Launched in 2013, the programme is built around partnerships with the Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB), the Country Fire Authority in Victoria (CFA) and M&O Pacific, a private training organisation.
In 2014, Judith Stanley was granted a scholarship for a study tour to the MFB and CFA, with funding provided by the UBFA. She travelled to Melbourne and spent time with the CFA studying volunteer youth programmes and volunteer sustainability. Find out more here.
The NZFBI intends to offer a scholarship again this year, to establish an annual programme, but this is subject to funding.
All firefighters from UFBA member brigades will be eligible to apply. Information will be posted here once confirmed, including scholarship topics and host organisations.
The application process will invite interested candidates to explain how the study programme will benefit them, their brigade and the NZFS. The successful candidate will be required to deliver a report and presentation at the UFBA Conference.
