The Tapanui Volunteer Fire Brigade was started in June 1908 after the town lost two hotels and the life of Father McGrath in one of them. Since then, the TVFB has grown with the town of Tapanui and West Otago. We currently have 12 Firefighters, 2 Recruit Firefigthers, 3 Volunteer Ops Support and 1 Brigade Support. We have a 1981 International PRT ( pump rescue tender ) call sign TAPA517, which is supported by a Clutha District Council water tanker, TAPA5111.
We have a strong focus on giving the community advice on Fire Safety in the home and installing and checking smoke alarms to hopefully reduce the risk of a fire in the home. By doing this we hope that there will never be another house fire fatality in Tapanui.
If you would like to join the TVFB or have questions feel free to contact us.
