143rd UFBA AGM

Thank you to everyone who joined us this evening at the 143rd UFBA AGM.

Congratulations to Mike Allen your new President and to Amber Hollis your Vice President.  To the outgoing President, Jason Prendergast, your leadership as President as been highly valued and on behalf of members, we thank you also.

Thank you to all members who submitted questions prior to the AGM that allowed for these to be answered during tonight’s forum. With the AGM not meeting the quorum threshold required, we will advise members this week what to expect regarding the process for Board appointments and motions requiring a vote.

AGM 2021

In light of the Government’s Covid alert level announcement on 20 September, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to move your 143rd AGM online due to the uncertainty around where levels will be at the time of the AGM. It is to be held on Friday 5th November 2021.

The UFBA Board and Management have considered the uncertainties around alert levels and large event gatherings. The risks that have been taken into account include financial, reputational, and member's safety.

Registered delegates will be emailed a unique login to the online AGM to enable them to participate, vote, and be counted towards quorum. More information will follow.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility during these unpredictable times.

Registrations have closed.

Korero 2021

Kōrero 2021 series

We have made some changes to the way conference is brought to you this year.

Building on the success of last years' Kōrero webinars, the UFBA are pleased to present the Kōrero 2021 series.

These live presentations will be spread across these three dates:

  • Thursday 11th November - Nigel Latta will present to us on PTS
  • Thursday 18th November - Fire and Emergency Executive Leadership Team
  • Thursday 25th November - Sir Graham Henry will present on leadership

Each live session will start at 7.00pm with an opportunity for Q&A at the end.

If you cant make it, don't worry, we'll have the presentations available to view at your leisure on our website for a limited time. These sessions will be open and available for all members to view via the UFBA website and no pre-registration needed.

Presentation Information:

Nigel Latta - PTSD 101
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is an occupational hazard for Fire and Emergency Services personnel… but what actually is it? What’s the difference between PTSD and just being disturbed by an incident? What causes it? How can two people attend the same incident and react in very different ways? And most importantly, if you are experiencing PTSD-based issues, what can you do about it?

Fire and Emergency ELT
An opportunity to engage with Fire and Emergency, getting greater insights into what’s happening across the organisation and what this means for Volunteers. The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) will talk with you about how Volunteers are being supported, what’s happening with fleet, new equipment and IT. They’ll also talk about the establishment of the new districts and what’s happening to create a new positive workplace culture. This is a great chance for you to hear from ELT and get answers to your questions.

Sir Graham Henry - Leadership
“Resilience and success is built by learning from adversity and failure.”
Sir Graham Henry is one of New Zealand's most in demand speakers - having coached the All Blacks to glory in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and going on to be awarded Coach of the Year at the IRB awards, receiving this award for a record 5th time. During his chat with us, Sir Graham will share anecdotes and coaching tips around the high performance environment, team culture, motivation, team development and leadership.

About the AGM & Conference

There's no other event that brings together hundreds of brigade members from across New Zealand.

Change and advancement begins with conversations. Meet new people, discover the latest from Fire and Emergency, hear from international speakers and experts in the fields of emergency service and wellbeing.

One space funded per member brigade (AGM delegate). Additional brigade members can join you at your brigade's expense (AGM observer).

Our Conference begins with our celebrated AGM - next will be our 143rd! This is your opportunity to shape your association, an organisation built by the people, for the people.

Each member brigade is invited to nominate one delegate with voting rights to represent their brigade at the conference. Help contribute to our quorum and play your part in our association.

Delegates have the opportunity to vote for representatives on the UFBA team including Board Directors, the Vice president/MAP member.

Each year all brigades receive a registration pack including instructions and forms for:

  • Delegate nomination form
  • Vice President/Board Member (if vacancy) nomination form
  • Motion proposal form
