NZFBI Field Day - Railway Infrastructure Safety - Dunedin

Dunedin Railways is an operator of a railway line and tourist trains based at Dunedin Railway Station. Originally formed in 1978 to operate excursions on the Otago Central Railway line, it now operate the Taieri Gorge Railway along with the Seasider service to Palmerston and numerous cruise ship shuttles to and from Port Chalmers.

Dunedin Railways operate a number of heritage locomotives and a railcar leased from Kiwirail. Locomotives designated to operate passenger services in New Zealand (both mainline and heritage operations) are required to have fire suppression systems fitted within their engine bays.
