Hawera 1st in Australasian Rescue Challenge

Congratulations Hawera Brigade for winning the 2014 Australasian Rescue Challenge yesterday in Melbourne. And to Rolleston for coming 2nd – great effort New Zealand!

Four teams from New Zealand - Greytown, Hawera, Rolleston and Whitianga - competed at an international level with teams from as far a field as Hong Kong and Singapore. The UFBA funded the top three teams from the 2013 New Zealand Road Crash Rescue Challenge, but Hawera were self-funded after finishing in fourth place. Their hours of training and determination paid off when they won the coveted title of 2014 Australasian Champions.

In a 3-day event at Lardner Park outside of Melbourne, the teams were put to the test via intense road crash rescue exercises by the Australasian Road Rescue Organisation:

  1. Entrapped Rescue
  2. Controlled Rescue
  3. Time Critical Rescue
  4. Workshop Pit
  5. Trauma Challenge

Hawera came first place in the Time Critical and Entrapped Rescue exercises and were Best Technical Team and Best Medical Team making them top of the leaderboard and first overall in the Challenge.

Well done to all of our NZ teams!

Hawera were true champions in Aussie. You were as near perfect as could be possible. The Greytown RCR team were so proud of you all. A big “well done” !
