Over the past month, the Membership Advisory Panel (MAP) has appointed member representatives to three working groups.
- Medical response (existing)
- Technical Competency Framework
- Type 3 Appliance Acquisition Project
To support representatives on these working groups we are bringing together members with skills and expertise in these areas to review and collate feedback from members which the UFBA will gather. Each group will be responsible for working with the representative to form advice to present on behalf of members. This process will be overseen by the MAP on behalf of the Board.

Medical Response Focus Group (existing)
Representative: Brendon Cameron
Purpose: The key function of the Medical Response Focus Group is to discuss and advise on matters that will contribute towards building a unified response to medical incidents for Fire and Emergency. The Group will promote a collaborative forum for recommendations of change, helping to improve the performance of Fire and Emergency through the review of policies, systems, processes and outcomes, interagency communication, and training. The Group will monitor the implementation of the conditions described in the Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) between each organisation and Fire and Emergency and will advise on changes that may be required for the MOU moving forward.
A support group has begun to form for this working group and includes: Brendon as the representative, Jason Lyall, CFO at Balclutha and a St John first responder; and Cory White, DCFO, Port Chalmers Brigade and a St John Paramedic. Technical Competence Framework
Representative: Kevin Ihaka
Purpose: This working group will inform and assist with the design and development of the Technical Competency Framework. The Technical Competency Framework is being created to enable Fire and Emergency to appoint personnel to the ranks of Fire Commander and Assistant Fire Commander for built and natural environments.
A support group has begun to form for this working group and includes: Kevin as member representative, Karl Lapwood, CFO Ngaruawahia and Mike Jones SSO Milton VFB and FF in the Dunedin Airport Brigade. Type 3 Next Generation Fire Appliance Project Steering Group
Representative: Mark Adie
Purpose: The purpose of the Project Steering Committee, (PSC), is to ensure that governance and assurance is in place for successful project delivery. The focus for the group will be governance across project planning and dependencies and ensuring relationships are managed appropriately. This Terms of Reference will be agreed to by the PSC members.
