Coatesville fatal house fire

Kia ora koutou

The United Fire Brigades’ Association (UFBA) recognises and stands behind the Silverdale and East Coast Bays Brigades who attended the double-fatality in Coatesville on Tuesday.   We have reached out to these brigades to offer our support and services.

Like many of you, we are disappointed in the behaviour of the NZPFU in going straight to national media yesterday to make a political and very public point.  They expressed their view about what and how Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) despatch crews to jobs, potentially casting doubt on the capability of volunteer crews and leaving the public thinking they are getting a lesser level of service from volunteer crews.  This disrespected the family and crews involved, which has left many people, paid personnel included, feeling angry and frustrated with the union.

As brigade members deal with the aftermath of this incident and other tragedies each day, we encourage all to remember the support that is available to you from the UFBA and FENZ.  If you need any assistance, we are here for you. Please phone the UFBA - 0508 832 269.

Kia kaha, kia kotahi ra – Our strength is our unity.

Our thoughts are with you all.

Ngā mihi nui
