UPDATE: UFBA Challenges and Workshops

Issue date:

Kia ora koutou

We have given much consideration to the Government’s COVID-19 Protection Framework (CPF) Red setting, the modelling for Omicron in our motu/country and the safety of our members.

The feedback we received following last week’s announcement cancelling the North Island Waterway Challenge, confirmed that was the right decision, to reduce the risk and protect members.

We must do what we can to support and maintain the integrity of brigades and their ability to respond to their communities. The lengthy isolation required for cases and close contacts may cause significant disruption to members, their whānau and brigades.

Therefore, after significant deliberation, it is with the greatest regret that we inform members of our decision to cancel all UFBA Challenges through to August 2022. This affects;

  • North Island, South Island and National Firefighter Combat Challenges
  • National Road Crash Rescue Challenge
  • National Drivers Challenge

It is important we continue to provide training and development for members. As our workshops are run in smaller numbers and easily adaptable, workshops will continue in some form, either online or in-person with strict measures in place.

All other UFBA services; Advocacy and Support, Benevolent Fund, Honours and Recognition, and the Membership Advisory Panel will continue to be available to support members. We also have several UFBA representation matters and sector advocacy campaigns underway.

We will continue to keep you updated, as we hope things change for the better.

Thank you, ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa
