Deadline for Incorporated Societies to re-register
A reminder to all brigades that are an Incorporated Society:
The deadline for re-registration with the Companies Office as an Incorporated Society under the new 2022 Act is Sunday 5 April.
The UFBA provided a template constitution in March 2025 which would meet the requirements under the re-registration process (email connect@ufba.org.nz if you need the template).
Brigades that wish to continue as an Incorporated Society, will need to re-register asap before the deadline: Applying to reregister your society | Incorporated Societies.
If you are also a Registered Charity, you will need to update your details with the Charities Services once you have completed the Incorporated Society registration.
As some of you may be aware, the UFBA and FENZ have been co-designing the Volunteer Engagement Model - which includes three proposed documents that define the relationships between individual volunteers, volunteer brigades, and Fire and Emergency.
These documents will be out for consultation from 30 March 2026 to 30 June 2026. We strongly encourage members to engage with this consultation to help ensure that the final documents enable brigades to meet the legislative requirements as an Incorporated Society and/or Charity.
