Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in the UFBA Board Intern position. We were encouraged by the strong response and the high calibre of applications received. It is inspiring to see so many members eager to grow their governance capability and broaden their understanding of the UFBA.

A UFBA Board-appointed panel carefully reviewed all applications, and after thoughtful consideration we are pleased to announce that Kyle Silcock has been selected as the 2026 UFBA Board Intern.

Kyle Silcock – Senior Station Officer, Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade
Kyle has proudly served with the Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade for 18 years and has already contributed to the UFBA through a number of projects. His commitment to service and willingness to step forward for new challenges reflects the strength and leadership within our membership.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Kyle shared:
“Stepping into the UFBA Board Internship is a significant milestone in my journey as a volunteer firefighter. It represents an opportunity to deepen my understanding of governance at a national level and to contribute to the future direction of our United Fire Brigades Association. I’m looking forward to learning from experienced board members, strengthening my capability in strategic decision making, and playing a meaningful part in supporting and shaping the UFBA for the years ahead.”

The Board Internship Programme is an important initiative designed to help develop future leaders within the volunteer fire sector. We look forward to supporting Kyle through this programme and seeing the contribution he will make as he builds his governance experience.
